Creating a baby registry can feel overwhelming—especially when you're trying to avoid products filled with toxins, plastics, and synthetic materials. As a health-conscious mom, I knew I wanted only the safest and most essential items for my baby. I skipped the swaddles, skipped the Bumbo, and skipped anything that didn’t support baby-led movement and natural development. If you're looking to build a non-toxic baby registry that's safe, simple, and truly supportive of your baby's health or you’re wanting to help a friend that is a soon to be mama, this list is for you.

Why Go Non-Toxic?

Toxins like flame retardants, BPA, phthalates, PFAS ("forever chemicals"), and synthetic fragrances can be found in many mainstream baby products. I saw a shocking study that was just released that stated that babies- NEW babies- had over 280 toxic chemicals in their bodies. Babies are especially vulnerable to these chemicals because of their developing systems and frequent hand-to-mouth behavior. Choosing non-toxic options helps reduce your baby’s exposure to harmful substances from the start- reducing their toxic burden later in life. This will help our children thrive in the future!

My Non-Toxic Baby Registry Essentials

Nursery & Sleep (No Swaddles!)

  • Organic Crib Mattress: Avacado brand is the best organic mattress I have found. It’s also not treated with flame retardants! Honestly, this time around (2nd baby) we don’t even have a crib, though.[Shop Organic Crib Mattress Here- it’s AFFORDABLE!]

  • Crib: Choose solid wood with non-toxic finishes. Like I said, we do not have a crib this time. We got a hand me down crib for my first baby (so grateful) and it was definitely not non-toxic. It was sprayed with paint, which our daughter was always putting her mouth on… I like these solid wood ones from Simply Nursery, though! [Shop Solid Wood Cribs Here]

  • Bassinet: Honestly, we didn’t buy a crib for baby #2- we put one of these beside our bed because our first slept in it until she was over a year old. I love this bassinet and you can get 20% off with this link! [Shop 20% Off Bedside Bassinet]

  • Organic Crib Sheets: Breathable and chemical-free options are a MUST. Your kid will literally be breathing this in and having their skin all over this for hours at a time! I love 10% off Sitewide + free shipping. Use CODE: NATUREPEDIC10." target="_blank">Naturepedic’s crib sheet options! They’re organic, too! [Shop 10% Off Organic Crib Sheets Here]

  • Sleep Sack: Organic cotton or wool sacks are best because they’re made of natural fibers- no synthetics! This helps keep your baby warm and your mind at ease! Burt’s Bees has some good ones! [Shop Organic Cotton Sleep Sacks Here]

  • Baby Monitor:Bebcare is the only company I know of that uses low emission monitors. This means less EMF radiation (read my blog post about Why EMF Is Harmful to Us Here) in your baby’s room. [Shop Bebcare Baby Monitors Here]

Diapering

  • Cloth Diapers or Eco-Friendly Disposables: I’ve never done cloth diapers, so I’d be a liar telling you what to get because I don’t know anything about them. However, I do know 2 good disposable diaper options that are nontoxic! For the luxurious mama- Healthybaby is hands down the go to. [Shop Healthybaby Diapers Here]Personally, I go for the more affordable nontoxic option. That would be Thrive Market brand. It’s extremely affordable. If you’re not a member, you can use my link to get 40% off your first box! [Shop Thrive Market Diapers Here with 40% Off!]

  • Non-Toxic Wipes: It is really tough to find good wipes. Even the wipes I was using for a long time unknowingly had sodium benzoate (nasty stabilizer) in them. Now I am using Parasol brand! [Shop Nontoxic Baby Wipes on Amazon Here]

  • Diaper Cream: Most diaper creams are full of junk. And people are lathering their baby’s private parts in it- makes me sick. Try a diaper cream that is free of petroleum and fragrance. Earth Mama is a great option. [Shop Earth Mama Diaper Rash Cream on Amazon]

  • Organic Changing Pad: I love that Naturepedic has an organic changing pad. They also have covers as well and so does Burt’s Bees! [Shop 10% off Organic Changing Pad Here]

Feeding

  • Glass Bottles: Glass bottles are a MUST. You don’t want to be reheating plastic bottles- they’ll leach microplastics into baby’s milk! I love Lifefactory’s bottles. They’re glass and have silicone sleeves to prevent breaking, too![Shop Lifefactory’s Glass Baby Bottles Here]

  • Breast Milk Storage: I don’t really keep a stock of breast milk in the freezer this time around, but with my first- I had so much breast milk in the freezer. Ya know, in those plastic baggies that they sit in for months? This time, I found an AWESOME breast milk storage idea that is made of glass. I think it’d be perfect for the mamas that are pumping to get through the day to day. If you’re needing to store for a long time, I opted for silicone trays! [Shop Burrbaby Glass Breast Milk Storage Bottles Here]

  • Breastfeeding Supplies: If you want an extensive list of ALL the things I recommend for postpartum- you have GOT to read my blog post about Nontoxic Postpartum Care Items You Need! [Read the Blog Post about Nontoxic Postpartum Items Here]

  • Burp Cloths & Bibs: When I was pregnant with my first, someone got me a ton of muslin burp cloths and I thought it was so useless. Little did I know- I’d use them literally constantly. Still do! Here’s the ones I use and LOVE! [Shop My Favorite Muslin Burp Cloths on Amazon Here]

  • Formula (if needed): A lot of mamas are needing to supplement or use formula in general, but what most people don’t realize is how horrible the ingredients are in the traditional formula being given to babies. High fructose corn syrup is literally one of the first ingredients in most… Personally, if I needed to resort to formula, I’d opt for a goat milk yogurt. Hands down the cleanest I have found is Sammy’s Milk brand.

Baby Gear (Minimal & Container-Free)

  • Baby Carrier: Soft, breathable and organic- Baby K’Tan is easier to wear than lose crazy ones you have to wrap yourself! I also love that it’s made with organic cotton, so it won’t be rubbing baby’s skin raw or be sprayed with flame retardants! [Shop Organic Baby Carrier Here]

  • Car Seat/Strollers: The best rule of thumb is to get a flame retardant free brand- Uppababy is what I am most familiar with and I know it is good quality because my best friend just bought one! To be honest, it is pricey and if I was having my first (and wouldn’t have been a broke college student) I would have gotten a nice car seat and stroller like this- it is seriously SO nice! [Shop Flame Retardant Free UppaBaby Gear Here]

  • Feeding Pillow: Whether you’re nursing or breast feeding- these things are SO convenient. They’re even great for baby to do tummy time on. I like how this is organic and smaller than the bulkier Boppy brand that most people get, too![Shop Snuggle Me Feeding Pillow Here]

  • Play Mat/Gym: You are going to want one of these! It’ll entertain baby and it will also encourage free play and tummy time! This one is made of muslin cotton (not the traditional polyester) and is so so so cute! [Shop Activity Play Mat Here]

  • Rocker Seat: I am not a fan of containers, but we got one of these with our first baby and kept it for our second. It’s really convenient to put him into whenever our Great Dane is walking around (don’t want him getting stepped on)! It’s also nice whenever he gets tired of crawling all over the floor- he likes to sit and watch us cook in the kitchen in this![Shop Maxi Cosi Rocker Seat Here]

  • Teethers: After about month 3- baby is going to want to gnaw on SOMETHING! Make sure it is a good quality something! These Oli&Carol teethers are so cute because they’re fruits and vegetables but they’re also made with 100% natural rubber from trees! [Shop Oli&Carol Rubber Teethers Here]

Bath & Grooming

  • Fragrance-Free Body Wash & Lotion: Baby’s don’t need fragrance or harsh ingredients rubbed into their skin. I got the baby bundle from Toups & Co. as a gift for my first pregnancy and it was incredible. Not only did it last forever, but it is made of quality ingredients that are easy to read. It’s also locally made where I live and I love the owner, too![Shop 10% Off Toups & Co. Baby Bundle Here]

  • Washcloths & Towels: You already know what I am going to recommend: organic cotton, of course. We’ve always used the Burt’s Bees towels because they’re easy to find and cost efficient. They hold up really well too- we’ve had ours over 3 years.[Shop My Favorite Organic Cotton Towels on Amazon Here]

  • Nail Trimmer: Hands down the best one we have found (we tried multiple) is the Frida Baby one! It’s in the kit I mention below in more detail- the complete baby kit! [Shop the Complete Baby Kit on Amazon]

  • Hairbrush: I’m not going to lie to ya’ll- I don’t really brush my baby’s hair. I guess I just let them look unruly. But someone did gift us a brush and it worked really well because it was made of goat hair. Kyte Baby has a really nice brush set.[Shop Kyte Baby Brush Set on Amazon]

Clothing

  • Organic Cotton Onesies & Pajamas: You’re going to want to avoid the flame retardant treated polyester clothing that is sold everywhere. Organic cotton is the best, in my opinion, because it is the easiest to find and the most cost efficient. My go to is Burt’s Bees Organic Cotton Onesies or Honest Co. [Shop Organic Cotton Onesies for Cheap on Amazon Here]

  • Wool Booties or Socks: Breathable and naturally anti-bacterial. You can easily get these on Amazon, too.

Health & Safety

  • Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent: Your run of the mill baby laundry detergent is normally FULL of harmful, toxic ingredients- including artificial fragrance. We use Attitude brand laundry detergent and it works great and has a smell but isn’t artificially derived. [Shop 10% off Attitude Brand Laundry Detergent Here]

  • NoseFrida: Okay, this is actually a catch all- just go ahead and do yourself a favor and get this entire baby kit. We use everything in here and it is a great price! [Shop Frida Baby Bundle on Amazon Here]

  • Digital Thermometer: this is included in the kit I linked above, but I had a Vick’s brand digital thermometer on hand because I homebirthed.

  • Cool-Mist Humidifier: We have probably used a humidifier once… like ever. But that is just because Libby has never really been too sick. But, if I were to get one- I’d get a filter free and BPA (plastic) free one. I found this awesome one on Amazon that is made of stainless steel for a good price! [Shop Stainless Steel Humidifier on Amazon Here]

What I Skip (and Why)

  • Swaddles: I prefer baby-led sleep and letting baby move freely. Swaddling can restrict movement and doesn’t align with my philosophy because it suppresses the startle reflex. My son and daughter both have always been great sleepers and may wake up once a night if at all.

  • Baby Containers (Bumbo, Exersaucers, Door Jumpers, Walkers, etc.): These limit natural movement and motor development. I focus on floor time and babywearing instead. This doesn’t inhibit them from reaching certain milestones and doesn’t negatively effect their joints (specifically hips).

  • Plastic Toys: I opt for natural materials like wood or silicone or naturally derived rubber made from trees.

  • Synthetic Fabrics: Polyester. Nylon. Vicose. Especially anything with added flame retardants.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a house full of baby gear to raise a healthy baby. Less is truly more when you choose high-quality, non-toxic essentials that support your baby’s development. Focus on what your baby actually needs: love, safety, freedom to move, and a healthy environment to grow in.
