I Spent $10,000 Trying to Heal My Skin Rash Naturally (Here’s What Actually Worked)

For over two years, I’ve been dealing with a skin rash on my hands that just wouldn’t go away.

It would start as tiny blisters… almost unnoticeable at first. But then they’d itch. And once I started itching, it would turn into scabs that were dry, inflamed, painful, and impossible to ignore. So, it was constantly evolving and constantly spreading

It wasn’t just a “minor skin issue.” It was something I was constantly aware of and extremely embarrassed of, honestly. And if you’ve dealt with something like this, you know how frustrating it can be to feel like your body is trying to tell you something but you can’t quite figure out what.

This all started after I had my first baby over three years ago now… It’d come and go, but after I got pregnant with my second baby nearly 2 years ago now, it’s never left…

At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I assumed it would go away on its own. But it didn’t. And over time, it became something I was actively trying to heal naturally. Because I truly believe our bodies were created with intention—designed by God to heal when we give them the right support.

Dyshidrotic Dermatitis natural healing

How my rash started —> a year later.

Extremely inflamed, painful and hard to live with initially.

So I tried it ALL:

  • I tried creams.

  • I changed my diet.

  • I bought supplements.

  • I did detox protocols.

  • I swapped out products.

  • I saw practitioners.

I tried the things people swore by and some things helped a little, but most didn’t.

And eventually I realized I had spent nearly $10,000 trying to heal this one issue.

$10,000… and I still didn’t have clear answers and my rash was still there.

I actually just went to the dermatologist and was diagnosed with dyshidrotic dermatitis. Honestly, this felt like both an answer and not an answer at the same time (especially since she told me that’s what it was without even looking at my hand…)

Sure, it gave a name to what I was experiencing, it didn’t fully explain why it was happening. I even asked her why it’d happen and I was told “it just happens”. That’s not an answer.

And that’s what I’ve really been after this whole time—
the root cause.

So in this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve tried. What absolutely did nothing to help. And what’s helped me most.

If you’re dealing with a chronic skin issue and feel like you’ve tried all the natural things with no real answers… I’m right there with ya!

What Is Dyshidrotic Dermatitis?

After 2 years, I finally went to a dermatologist and got a diagnosis: dyshidrotic dermatitis. When I asked the dermatologist what it was, she said it’s tiny, itchy blisters that usually appear on the hands or feet. She couldn’t, however, tell me what the root cause of it was. Google told me that it can be triggered by stress, allergens, toxins or internal imbalance. This made sense based on what I found out later on (more on that shortly). She told me I could treat it topically with a steroid cream, but I wanted to treat root cause too.

Everything I Tried to Heal My Skin Rash Naturally

I’ve tried a lot over the past 2+ years. Some things helped, some didn’t, and some I wouldn’t do again.

What Didn’t Work to Heal My Rash Naturally (or Only Helped Temporarily)

Topical Creams & “Natural” Products

  • Locally rendered beef tallow- it was nourishing but didn’t make it any better

  • Locally made “eczema” cream- made with coconut oil which I ended up having an allergy to, so it was too inflammatory for me & made me way worse

  • Ozonated glycerin- a DO recommended this to me and it was so expensive and actually made my rash wayyyyy worse

  • Breast milk- tried baths and salves made of my own breast milk

A Bunch of Supplements

I took a stool sample with a functional practitioner and was recommended a lot of supplements like Olive Leaf Extract, mastic gum, and more. I just took whatever dosage the bottle said and I wasn’t sure what they were addressing. I think this can be effective, but it should be specific to you and your results- not just whatever the bottle recommends. I’ll get into that later.

Eat Right for Your Blood Type

I’m an A blood type and my approved food list for the Eat Right for Your Blood Type is extremely restricting. This phase of my healing journey (end of year 1) was riddled with anxiety. I was terrified to have anything that wasn’t approved for my blood type. I followed this for at least 4 months and saw no improvement. I also did the “secretor” test and took that into account, but again, made no difference. I was also taking more supplements recommended to me for my blood type, too.

Different “Therapies”

I saw a DO that had an ozone chamber sauna and did sound therapy. I did both and neither helped at all.

Water Filters

I got a filter head for my shower and I got a filter for the bath tub water, too. While they didn’t improve my hands- I definitely love these items and am glad I got them. They make me feel so clean and they filter out a lot of junk from the tap water!

What Actually Helped Heal My Rash Naturally

It took a long time, but I finally found 2 things that have addressed root cause effectively.

  1. Working with a Functional Practitioner

One of my friends referred me to a practitioner, Dr. Canaan at The Wellness Way in Sarasota, Florida (we did virtual) that she went to school with. I figured- what do I have to lose?

I did a more extensive stool test (3 days) and a mold test with her to start. The results were surprising: I had a severe bacterial overgrowth in my gut and intestines which was causing me to have 0% immunity response. This was causing me to have autoimmune symptoms- my body was attacking itself. I also had mold show up in my test as well. This was one of the first times I felt like I was actually supporting my body instead of fighting it and felt confident in what was being told to me- Dr. Canaan really knows her stuff!

Healing My Gut

Dr. Canaan gave me a very specific (and effective) diet to follow in order to kill off the candida (bacterial) overgrowth in my gut. This diet was specific to my stool test results. Keep in mind that I eat extremely clean about 90% of the time, yet, I still had A LOT of “die off” or detox symptoms. That told me that I was killing the candida effectively! And I felt INCREDIBLE, too!

She also gave me specific natural tinctures that were organic and super potent to address everything that was going on in my gut and to help support my immune system!

Paying Attention to Triggers

After about a month of following my specific diet protocol she recommended, we tested my allergies. This included anaphylactic and inflammatory allergies. I did a blood test for this, so it showed the “here and now” of what was causing immune responses in me. Unfortunately, a lot of what I was eating was on this list, so I cut these things out too.

2. How a Bioenergetic Scan Helped My Skin Rash

The work I did with Dr. Canaan helped me understand and address what was going on with my body in the here and now- which was A LOT.

I already was doing bioenergetic scans in my health coaching practice, so I figured- why not? It’d be a little bit different of an approach because it looks at what is going on with my body energetically throughout my life. Bioenergetic scans help identify stressors in the body—things like sensitivities, imbalances, or areas that may need extra support over time instead of the “here and now”.

Avoiding my Sensitivities to Reduce Inflammation

A lot of what showed up on my sensitivities correlated with what showed up on my allergy test, which surprised me. I avoided the sensitivities for 30 days, which gave my body time to reduce inflammation and “chill out”.

Taking Holistic Remedies to Heal my Rash

Based on the results of the scan, it recommends specific homeopathic, herbal or supplemental remedies to help correct whatever it finds on the scan. After taking them a week, I saw the needle moving with my hand rash- it finally wasn’t itching any more and I don’t have a scaly rash.

Want Help Healing a Rash Naturally?

If you’ve been dealing with something chronic for a while—whether it’s skin, energy, hormones, or your something with your child’s health—and feel like you’ve tried everything… I’m here to tell you that sometimes the next step isn’t doing more. It’s getting clarity on what your body actually needs. For me, I do not think that doing just one thing or another would’ve truly completely healed my hands. Addressing the severe gut dysbiosis with my functional practitioner AND doing the bioenergetic scan I offer in my health coaching practice were both necessary for me.

If You’re in This Season of Trying to Heal a Rash Naturally…

I want you to know that there is hope for healing naturally, but you must be patient. Realize that a rash often pops up after years (nearly lifelong) of gut dysbiosis or toxin exposures. Treating these exposures and healing internally is what it is going to take for you to feel your best, but it takes time. Unfortunately, unlike the bandaid approaches most Western Medicine providers like to give us, this approach will take longer than a week or two. But that is okay- God has has given us ways to heal naturally and feel better overall and for that I am eternally grateful.
