Skip the Booze, Keep the Fun: 4 Patriotic Mocktails to Sip This July 4th

Over 400 days alcohol-free—and still having fun!

This year, I’m celebrating my second sober 4th of July (granted I was pregnant last 4th of July)—and I’ve never felt more present, peaceful, or aligned. We’re heading to the beach with friends for the holiday, and just because I’m skipping the booze doesn’t mean I’m skipping the fun drinks. Mocktails are my favorite way to enjoy the ritual of a special drink—minus the alcohol, the hangover, and the regret.

Why I Chose Sobriety

Growing up in an alcohol-heavy household, I saw firsthand what it looked like when drinking was the norm—not just for parties, but everyday life. I grew up seeing alcohol so much- it made it seem abnormal for me not to have a drink any time I was out and about. I didn’t want that for myself or my kids. I want them to see a mom who’s fully there, fully clear, and fully herself. Not tipsy. Not passed out. Not drinking to “take the edge off.”

Choosing sobriety over 400 days ago has changed my life—my energy, my sleep, my anxiety, my skin. I’ve learned that I don’t need alcohol to unwind, to connect, or to celebrate.

Fun Drinks, Zero Regrets

So for this Fourth of July, I’m bringing some seriously good mocktails to the beach. These drinks feel festive, fun, and grown-up—and even my non-sober friends love them. Bonus: the kids can have them too and they’re breastfeeding friendly!

I’ve made these four as recipe cards, so you can screenshot and mix them up wherever you are. Here's what we’re sipping on this year:

🍋 Raspberry Lemonade Spritzer
Refreshing, fizzy, and tart-sweet—perfect for a hot beach day.

🌶️ Spicy Margarita
A bold, zesty drink with a little kick—no tequila needed.

🇺🇸 Red, White, and (No) Booze
Layered with red berries, coconut milk, and blueberry fizz for the ultimate July 4th vibe.

🍍 Pineapple No-Jito
Minty, citrusy, and tropical—this one tastes like vacation in a glass.

Bonus: How to Make Simple Syrups

Making simple syrup is easy and can actually be FUN! You can curate it to what is best for your recipe and making it yourself ensures there’s no nasty ingredients added! Here’s how to make it:

Heat equal parts sugar and water together (I typically do 1/2 cup each) on a saucepan over medium heat. Stir throughout as mixture heats up and continue to stir for 5 to 8 minutes until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let the syrup cool. It’s that simple! You can store in a fridge for up to 2 weeks.

If you want to add fruit, here’s how you’d do that:

Heat the strawberries (handful amount), sugar and water (1/2 cup each) together on a saucepan over medium heat. Stir and smash the strawberries as the syrup heats up. Continue to stir for 5 to 8 minutes until the sugar has completely dissolved. Strain out the strawberry chunks and let the syrup cool.

Life is better clear.

Whether you're sober-curious, totally dry, or just want a festive drink without the fog—these are for you. You can have a holiday full of joy, connection, and celebration without alcohol. And honestly? It feels even better.

✨ Cheers to freedom—of all kinds.
