Why Does My Child Keep Getting Ear Infections? Natural Ways to Support Ear Health
When your child has an ear infection, you want to know why and what to do. However, being naturally minded and addressing ear infections can be tough as a mom.
If you get on any mom Facebook group, you’ll probably see this question almost daily: “what do I do if my child has an ear infection?”. It’s a common concern for moms and it is pretty tough to navigate if you’re a more naturally minded mom who doesn’t want to immediately jump to antibiotics.
As a mom, I believe our bodies were designed with incredible healing abilities. Supporting the body’s natural processes does not mean ignoring symptoms or avoiding medical care—it means looking at the whole picture.
This blog post is going to cover natural ways to support ear infections in kids, support their bodies and potentially reduce factors that contribute to recurring issues, and when to seek medical help (yes, there’s definitely a time and a place for this- even for a naturally minded mama).
*Disclaimer: This is not medical advice. This is my experience from being a mom and from working in the healthcare field for over 8 years. To see our full disclosure, click here.
What Causes Ear Infections in Kids?
When ear infections become a recurring problem, I think it’s worth asking: why is this happening repeatedly? I see this a lot in my health coaching practice- especially in young children.
With an ear infection, there will be fluid buildup behind the ear drum. This can be caused by poor drainage pathways due to congestion and inflammation. Also, an impaired immune system will contribute to frequent ear infections as well.
Natural Ways to Support Your Child’s Ear Health
Chiropractic Care for Improved Ear Drainage + Nervous System Support
Before becoming a health coach, I worked in a pediatric focused chiropractic office for 8 years. During that time, I saw countless babies and children come in with different health concerns, including ear issues. Many parents reported improvements after their child received gentle pediatric chiropractic care.
I take my children to the chiropractor at least once a week. It helps our bodies function optimally and therefore, drain optimally. I wrote a blog post covering this in more specifics and how to find a pediatric chiropractor in your area:

How to Support Healthy Ear, Sinus, and Lymphatic Drainage
In my health coaching practice, I perform Bioenergetic Scans for my clients. One thing I frequently look at during bioenergetic scans is the body’s drainage pathways. When I see recurring ear issues, I often see patterns involving the ear/jaw drainage pathways, inflammation, or possible food sensitivities that may be contributing to the body’s overall stress load.
Addressing inflammatory environmental and food sensitivities is essential to reducing inflammation and allowing the body to properly drain. That’s why I love the Bioenergetic Scans because they give you a list of potentially 360+ food/environmental sensitivities that could be contributing to the inflammation effecting the body.
Evaluate Food Sensitivities and Inflammation
When I perform a Bioenergetic Scan on people with frequent ear infections- I pretty much see a lot of the same thing over and over. Food is information for the body. For some children, certain foods may contribute to inflammation or mucus production, and identifying individual triggers can be an important piece of the puzzle.
Dairy sensitivity (typically due to low lactase enzyme in the body)
Poor lymphatic system performance
Gluten sensitivity (normally linked to a mold exposure)
Resonating virus or bacteria exposure still causing inflammatory response
Processed sugars sensitivity (can contribute to candida overgrowth)
Prioritize Nutrient Dense Foods
If your child has an ear infection or is sick in general- it’s time to resort back to REAL food and stop feeding them so many processed snacks. The first thing I’d do is cut out all added sugars- this allows the immune system to actually kick in and begin healing and reduces inflammation. Here’s some other things I’d focus on for my kids:
Make sure there is protein in every meal and snack you’re giving your child
Load up on healthy fats
Focus on colorful veggies + fruits (fruits do not have ADDED sugars, they have natural sugars)
Add in some minerals (whether that be a homemade mineral drink or foods rich in minerals)
Fermented foods are great, too (but can be tough getting a child to eat)
Comfort Measures and Support for Ear Infections
A warm compress on the ear intermittently is great for comfort
Supporting the body with plenty of rest
Drinking a ton of fluids will help flush the lymph system (not sugary juices, though)

Homeopathics can help, too [Read What I Use Instead of Tylenol Here]
When I’d Seek Medical Care
I’m always going to try the natural route first but there’s definitely a time and place to resort to Western Medicine care:
High fever
Stuff draining out of the ear canal
Worsening symptoms
Severe pain (you know your child best)
Non-improvement after a couple of days
Final Thoughts: Supporting Your Child’s Body Through an Ear Infection
When your child is dealing with an ear infection, it can feel overwhelming trying to figure out what steps to take. As moms, we want to make the best decisions for our children, and that often means looking beyond just managing symptoms and asking, “Why is this happening?”
Supporting your child naturally doesn’t mean ignoring symptoms or refusing medical care. It means taking a whole-body approach—supporting their immune system, encouraging healthy drainage pathways, reducing inflammation, and paying attention to potential factors that may be contributing to recurring issues.
Every child is different, and what works for one child may not be the answer for another. If your child struggles with frequent ear infections, congestion, inflammation, or other recurring symptoms, it may be worth looking deeper into what could be contributing to their body’s stress.
One tool I use with clients is a Bioenergetic Scan, which can help identify areas of stress within the body that may be worth exploring. I often see patterns related to drainage pathways, inflammation, and potential food sensitivities that may be impacting how a child’s body is functioning. While a scan does not diagnose or replace medical care, it can provide additional insight into areas where you may want to focus your support.
